Things To Do
Discover the heart of the Outer Hebrides from your home away from home...
Benbecula may be small, but it’s full of adventure, scenery and Hebridean charm. Whether you’re here to unwind or explore, there’s something for everyone right on your doorstep.

How to Get Here
The Isle of Benbecula is beautifully remote yet surprisingly easy to reach. It sits in the centre of the Outer Hebrides between North and South Uist. You can travel here by ferry or plane, and both options offer stunning views on the way.
By Air
Benbecula has its own airport (Benbecula Airport, BEB) located in Balivanich.
From Glasgow: Loganair operates regular direct flights (around 1 hour).
From Inverness or Stornoway: Connections are also available via Loganair. The airport is only a few minutes’ drive from most accommodation on the island, with taxis and car hire available on arrival.
By Ferry
If you prefer to bring your car, Benbecula is connected to the rest of the Outer Hebrides by causeways, so you can arrive via North or South Uist.
Main routes from mainland Scotland: Uig (Isle of Skye) to Lochmaddy (North Uist) Operated by Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac), Journey time: around 1 hour 45 minutes.
From Lochmaddy, drive south across the causeway to Benbecula (approximately 30 minutes) Mallaig or Oban to Lochboisdale (South Uist) Journey time: around 3 to 5 hours depending on route.
From Lochboisdale, Benbecula is a short 40-minute scenic drive north.
Getting Around
Once you are here, the islands are linked by road causeways, which makes it easy to explore North Uist, South Uist and Eriskay, without taking another ferry. Car hire, local taxis and buses are available, but having your own transport gives you the most freedom to explore beaches, lochs and viewpoints at your own pace.
Booking your ferry or flight in advance is essential, especially in summer, as routes can fill up quickly.
